The Power of Music

Science has confirmed that humans are programmed to respond to music. In fact, many use music as an outlet when feeling, sad, upset, celebrating, mourning, etc. It is also used to help pump you up when getting your daily workout in and can set the mood for many different occasions.

Listening to music can help you to feel relaxed and at ease and in some cultures is even used to help ease pain. In recent studies, scientists have even found that music stimulates more parts of the brain than any other function! And there is so much potential in music to help change brain function & affect the way that it works in patients suffering from Parkinson’s or even a stroke!

Positive Effects of Music On Brain Function

A multitude of studies has been done to show the effects of music on different groups of people. How do people respond to music? Does it help their situation, making it better or does it make it worse? In infants a few weeks old it has been found that the constant intervals and smooth sound of their cries are comparable to western music. Does this mean that there is a connection between people & music that we have only begun to realize?

With the possibility to help with neurological defects like those found in stroke patients, music is a key component to health & wellbeing. Those exposed to some form of music therapy, especially children, seemed to respond well and show improvement over the course of the study. In fact, verbal function is stimulated by music, which helps communication skills.

There is so much potential & power in music that is to be explored. With the promising research that has been found we continue to propel forward and hope to make many more incredible discoveries!
